30s Magazine - Trend: Botanical prints

Botanical prints like ferns and palm leafs are super hot this season. The trend extends to everything from curtains, lamp shades, pillows to seat covers.  I noticed that the different green hues are mostly combined with walnut wooden furniture. This gives it a bit of retro feel. At Zara Home they have a fresh, Asian inspired collection boasting some great botanical print pieces.  There they paired it with white and bamboo, which creates a tropical feel to your space.

A few weeks ago Ikea introduced their Stockholm collection including a comfortable chair in a fern-print finish.

An alternative to the  fabrics is incorporating the trend with vintage prints.  They look like old encyclopedic pages, which they sometimes are. You can tear out prints out of old books and frame them, or you can try a flea market or rummage brocante and vintage stores. I think it adds character when the prints are showing the test of times, but for those of you who don’t, Ikea and a few other contemporary brands have caught on to the trend and are now also selling posters like these.

If you’re really a fan of green, and don’t fear to get tired of this trend, you are in luck. The botanical trend extends to wallpapers too. Paired with white it gives your space an airy feel, even in winter.

We also see other botanicals than green leafs in interior design. Blown up wild flowers adorn room screens, posters and vintage pre-school biology maps.  The prints add colour and texture to a room and are a perfect replacement for real plants. They add live to a space in a one-dimensional way.
