De Pasta kantine (Pasta canteen) is the new hot spot in Rotterdam. Located in the bustling Pannekoekstraat, this restaurant adds something hip yet also pure to the culinary scene. Set against a raw and industrial industrial setting with hanging plants and traditional tiled floors, you can indulge in a real homemade pasta. All ingredients and herbs are fresh, and except for the lasagna, all dishes can be ordered gluten free. In the open kitchen you can encounter how the cooks prepare the food with almost entirely bio products. (continue reading after photos)
On the menu you will only find pasta dishes and salads, so no pizza. From an authentic spaghetti alla carbonara, to a linguine with fish, or tagliatelle with duck stew in red wine. The salads are also finger-licking good: what about one with radicchio, spinach, mushrooms and a gorgonzola dressing?
De Pasta Kantine is also very conscious about society, the environment and reduction of unnecessary waste. They support the No Waste Network by offering doggy bags (which is rare in the Netherlands). And for each can of pure tap water they charge 1 euro that they donate to the charity dine4them organization. Is this a hot spot or what?
